Behind Briar & Brush

In short, it’s the sanctified subtext for artists, theologians, deep thinkers, and honest question-askers. Where mental noise meets mercy – a creative space for processing tangled thoughts and layered emotions through both reflective writing and illustrative art, trusting in God’s renewal—even in the mess of the mind (Romans 12:2). Hoping, as I share, to bear witness to God’s steady grace amid life’s mental clutter.

In not so short, think of Briar and Brush as a living, creative journal entry of mine—a bit blog, bit sketchbook, part inner monologue that I’m sharing aloud. “Briar” is the mess—the thorns, the tangled thoughts, spiritual knots, the parts of life that are just plain hard to navigate and sometimes even harder to name. And “Brush” is how I tend to that mess—creatively, reflectively. Not trying to fix things quickly, but sitting with them honestly. Carefully turning them over with words and art to see what might be growing underneath.

It’s the way I process life pictured as a garden. Scripture often talks about gardens in terms of growth—soil, pruning, planting, renewal. And that’s what this space is about. Not polished or manicured—but still tended to, still full of potential. And I’m simply sharing what this journey looks like in real time, inviting you to come alongside as I work through it transparently.
